4 Weeks Down...
We are just over 4
weeks into the kitchen remodel project and are just starting to see signs of 'rebuilding'. Seems like we've been in demolition mode for a while now. The project started as a kitchen face lift, then turned into a kitchen face lift + all new wiring in the house, then it evolved to kitchen face lift + all new wiring in the house + all new plumbing in the house. The line has been drawn - no more new projects, however there isn't much else to add except re carpeting the basement which we're going to do when the kitchen is finished. The good news, while more walls and ceilings were being taken down the kitchen continued to come together. We now have walls and have begun mudding, and the new recessed cans have been installed and wired and
our kitchen has light! The electrical is almost complete. Blane spent a lot of time in the attic drilling holes, running and fishing wire so now all that's left is to run power to all the outlets in the house and then it's done. The electrical box was completely updated too so there are no more signs of crazy patchwork electrical in the house. While all the pipes were exposed we decided to go for it and update all the old galvanized steal pipes for new PEX piping as it would be the easiest to work with in our tight little house. We are really hoping this will solve the 'dribble down the wall' that was previously known as our shower. We have all the hot and cold lines run and just need to hook them up. Part of the plumbing project included the removal of the old bathtub - so sadly we'll need to do some touch up painting of our newly updated bathroom that we did last year, thankfully the new tile floor wasn't damaged. Once the tub is in we'll be able to put up the new walls in the bathroom as well. We're getting there, slow but steady progress. We're now shooting to have the project complete by the end of October - fingers crossed.
