Chiang Mai

We are now in Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand. We had a pretty nice day today starting in Bangkok. We were still adjusting to the time difference so we were up bright and early. We had breakfast at the Starbucks down the street (I had a cheese and spinich quiche, we need to get those in our stores in the US) and then headed to Limpini Park, it's like the Central Park of Bangkok. There were tons of people walking and running, doing Tai Chi, we even did a little yoga session of our own. We then headed out for some lunch and let our taxi recommend a place - bad idea. We got taken big time. Oh well, we learned our lesson and were out $70 bucks for a crappy meal for 4. We then tried to negotiate with our taxi driver and he basically verbally abused us the whole way back to our hotel. It definitely did not feel like the land of smiles at that point, but the frustration wore off and we packed our bags and hopped onto a flight to Chiang Mai. It was about an hour flight and it's fantastic here, we all really like it. It's much more calm and relaxed than Bangkok. We are staying in a quaint little guesthouse for $8 a night! We leave tomorrow morning for our trek where we'll stay overnight with the Karen tribe and then ride elephants and river raft. Tonight we're going to check out the Sunday market that's just down the alley from our guesthouse and grab a little dinner. Still not able to upload pictures but hopefully soon.

It is so good to continue to stay up on your trip with your blog. What a good way to keep a diary of your experiences and adventures.

Did you see any evidence of the protest against the prime minister? I read in the paper that all is resolved.

Today dad, Jenny and Mikey went to the Siebrass' for the picnic. I worked and so did Tracy. Lots to get ready for the start of school. I was the only one at Longfellow so it was quiet and productive.

Dad and I bought a new car...a 2008RAV 4. It is a beautiful blue and drives like a dream. It even has the blue tooth so we can talk and listen to cell phone conversations magically!

Continue to have fun. Love, mom and dad
