Tong Nai Pan Noi

We survived the half moon party at Hat Rin - it was an impressive party. We all rested up and then headed out to dinner and got out first bucket. The whole deal around these parties is everyone drinks out of these buckets. they have these plastic toy buckets with pints of booze, a can of mixer and usually another energy type mixer. When you buy one they fill the bucket with ice, crack open all the contents, fill up the bucket and stick a bunch of straws in. After our dinner and a movie (they had Forgetting Sarah Marshall on - all the restaurants and bars have movies playing all the time) we headed to the beach for a while before getting into a taxi to head into the jungle. They had the beach all set up with chairs, mats, tables, music and fire twirlers for entertainment. We had two more buckets on the beach and then around 10 departed for the Half Moon Party. We rode in the back of a pick up truck and made a new friend from Switzerland - he barely spoke any English so it was an interesting conversation. It was dark so we had no idea where we were when we were dropped off. We paid 300bt. to enter and everything was lit by black light and there was a trance of techno in the background. We walked up the path and it opened up on this huge compound basically of a big dance floor and several levels with seating and bars. People were being painted with glow in the dark paint and dancing away. We stayed quite a while and then when it started to rain we decided we had had enough fun and headed home. We had to wait until the taxi was full before it would leave so we waited about 30min for others to leave too. In the meantime it was apparently the time to come because the line was extremely long and looked as though the party was just getting started. I think we left around 1AM but it probably went until 8am the next morning. The next day we got up had a great breakfast of croissants and coffee and then took a longtail boat taxi up to Tong Nai Pan Noi a quite bay with such a relaxed almost secluded feel to it, the exact opposite to Hat Rin. We searched all the beach accomodations and then decided to stay at one of the resorts for the next three nights and treat ourselves. The rooms are beautiful, we have an amazing pool to sit by and we get free breakfast - and best of all it's only 100 bucks a night. So worth it after the budget bungalows we have stayed at. It feels like a mix of Mexico and Hawaii where we are. We have met another couple from LA and have spent the past couple evenings with them having happy hour, playing games, dinners, and going out kayaking and doing yoga. It's been great. Tomorrow we will catch a ferry back to Koh Samui and hang out on the beach until we have to catch our flight at 5pm back to Bangkok. We'll spend the last few days of our trip in Bangkok before we head home.
